Athletic endeavors of the week

NFC won the Pro Bowl…yaaaaawn

The greatest coach of all time, Bob Knight, stepped down this week. Be nice to see him come back and go for 1000 wins, but that’s just me being selfish.

The stupidest trade of all time went down as the Suns traded away midget arm, malcontent Shawn Marion for big, old, slow, Shaquille O’Neal. He’s gonna kill the Suns. I just don’t see how this trade is in any way good for the Suns. Meanwhile, the Heat are looking much better for the future with that huge contract off their shoulders.

NBA predictions…Finals? Hmmm. Celtics vs Jazz…a ratings nightmare. Finals MVP, Kevin Garnett. League MVP Chris Paul. Hope the Magic do well too. I’m a Magic fan going back to Shaq/Penny/Nick Anderson/Dennis Scott days.

Kansas basketball continues to roll since Beasley and company defeated them a couple weeks back. My final four picks…Kansas, Duke, UCLA, and Indiana. North Carolina is over-rated and Memphis has even worse free throw shooting than Kansas. A Kansas/Memphis showdown would be fun to watch though.

Noooooooooooo!

santana.jpg

Johan Santana is set to invade the National League. That in itself is not so bad. What’s bad is he’s set to join the N.Y. Mets. This doesn’t look good for my beloved Braves as they traditionally struggle vs power pitchers. Plus he has that KILLER change up to go along with his blazing fastball. I’m sad. We get fucking Kotsay and the Mets get Santana. So unfair. I hate our GM and cheap ass Time Warner/AOL.

Lazyness

I usually make a full post on the monthly UFC PPV’s but I’m just too lazy today. Which is unfortunate, because it was a pretty good show, despite the lackluster card. Kendall Grove continues to bring the suck by getting knocked out again in the 1st round. Lambert dominates the first round, only to get floored by one punch, 30 seconds into the second round against Wilson Gouveia. Gonzaga’s a 1 kick wonder and B.J. Penn is SCARY good at 155.

Kansas basketball still kicks ass. Now ranked number 2 behind Memphis who is number 1 for the 1st time in school history. Big HA! at North Carolina and it’s crying ass fans. TO called and he wants his spotlight back.

Unlike the aforementioned Kendall Grove, Escaflowne continues to bring the awesome. 2 more discs to go. Hope it doesn’t lose it’s steam.

I shaved off my ‘stache and it is not a pretty site. It’s downright frightening. Never happening again.

That is all.

Braves front office

Andruw Jones replacement?

Today in the infinite wisdom of Frank Wren(new general manager). The Braves traded away a potential top closer/set-up man in RP Joey Devine for a guy who’s coming off the worst season of his incredibly average career in CF Mark Kotsay. I knew they were desperate for a CF but Kotsay? Bad, bad move. I hope he fails his physical, thus killing the trade dead.

Athletic endeavors

Quick note on my last post. After reading my own post. I’ve come to the conclusion, that I much prefer Nas to Jay-Z. Now back to your regularly scheduled post.

Playoffs have begun and Patriots just keep trucking along. Tom fuckin’ Brady was 26 for 28 passing and one of those incompletion’s was a drop by Wes Welker. God that fucker sucks. Slot machine is right. Put all your money into him and get shit back in return. I kid, I kid. I picked the San Diego upset. I’d be up by one game on the Digital Gathering “Pick the Pro’s” if I hadn’t forgot about the Green Bay game. I almost picked the Giants as well, but thought two big upsets was too much to ask. So now, it’s Pats/Chargers and Pack/Giants. Who would’ve thunk it. I bet Tiki’s kickin’ himself right now. I think they got a good chance to beat the Pack. Not so sure about the Chargers.

The Jayhawks opened up conference play yesterday with a blowout of Nebraska. Brandon Rush decided to make an appearance, and led the team with 19pts as he was raining 3′s. They’re still undefeated as they head to Oklahoma tomorrow. A Memphis/KU match up would be a fun ass game to watch no matter the outcome. Side note: Brandon Rush will be a bust in the NBA and Kareem Rush is the more talented brother.

I wish there was some hard evidence on Clemens and Bonds. I also wish I could watch Baseball without talk of roids every 5 minutes. Move the fuck on. Make the penalties more strict and kick the users the fuck out. The penalties right now are lame as fuck.

Hockey is not a sport. I’d rather watch paint dry.

Tony Kornheiser is an idiot. He said a few days back that the Celtics were the 4th best team in the East. Behind the Pistons, Magic, and the fuckin Bulls. The Bulls for gods sake! Side note: Dwight Howard is a beast. If he could shoot free throws, he’d be a consistent 30point scorer. Even still, he’s the most dominant big man in the game.

The hell is a hokie any damn way!?

hokies.jpg

My guess is a looooooser. Ooooh burn. Kansas shut up it’s critics yesterday with a dominant 24-21 win over Virginia Tech. Oh yes I said dominant. Kansas beat Virginia Tech at their own game. Special Teams and Defense. A blocked FG being the key play of the game and the difference in the final score. Aqib Talib started things off right with an INT for a TD. Now if only Kansas basketball can keep it up I might be able to forget about the abysmal season for the Chiefs…but I doubt it.

I am a bit perplexed as to why they roll Reesing out to his left so much, forcing him to throw across his body. He looks good when rolling out to his right. Anyway…WOOHOO! ORANGE BOWL CHAMPIONS!

1 down…

2 to go. Mike Solari, offensive retard coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs is no more. Fired today after a horrible season for the Chiefs in his first year as an offensive retard coordinator.

Now we just need to lose Herm and Carl Peterson and I’m a happy camper. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s happening. Maybe we’ll get an offensive coordinator in who can open Herm up a little…and Peterson will patch up the offensive line whether through the draft or free agency.

I’m not optimistic.

Chiefs….*sigh*

Well, I think it’s long past the time to start looking forward to next season. We’re beyond done this year. Last I looked, they were down 41-7 to the fuckin’ Broncos.

Other news, at least we’re not the Dolphins.

Andruw Jones…

…5th highest paid player in baseball!? I love me some Andruw Jones, but damn! He hit .222 last year, and his HR total dropped drastically 2 years in a row. A five-time All-Star, Jones will receive a $12.2 million signing bonus, of which $5.1 million is payable next year, $2.1 million in 2009 and $5 million in 2010. He will get salaries of $9 million next year and $15 million in 2009, and also will receive a no-trade clause.

I hope he bounces back, I truly do, but….damn.

In other news, the Royals newest signee Jose Guillen started things on the wrong foot by being suspended for the first 15 days of next season by Major League Baseball on Thursday for violating the sport’s drug program. Royals management is beyond repair.
