MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

This week is the aforementioned “smoothest, most soulful white boy ever, Jon B.” I don’t know what he’s doing now, but he sung his ass off in the mid-90′s. I had a tough choice in song selection. Go with his biggest commercial hit or my favorite song of his. I decided on my favorite song. That song is “Pretty Girl” off his CD “Bonafide”.

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

This week is former House of Pain member Everlast…finally. Easiest way to describe his new sound was probably best said by Eminem during their one sided feud.

“Got in touch with his roots, found the redneck in his blood
And said, “heck, country western rap records are good”

Despite the verbal ass kicking layed down by Eminem, I’m a huge fan of Everlast. Just love his sound. Had trouble deciding on a song, so picked one at random off of his “White Trash Beautiful” album. That song, “Broken”. Other than the title track, it’s probably my favorite off this CD. For the record, I love me some rock ballad’s and my taste in some music is mildly questionable…thing is, I don’t care. I’m a sensitive man dammit!

Jon B….

…is the smoothest, most soulful white boy ever. Bought a couple of his older CD’s a few days back(and promptly turned them into mp3′s) and damn is that some good shit. Just don’t get that kind of R&B anymore. The new Boyz II Men Motown Classics CD isn’t too shabby either. Better than I expected for sure.

That is all.

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

Rest In PeaceI was gonna put up an Everlast song, but with recent passing of UGK’s Pimp C, I figured I’d add a song of his off their latest CD. Not gonna pretend I was a huge fan and gush about his and UGK’s greatness, but they were one of the few act’s from the south I could listen to and for the most part enjoy. The first time I heard them was on the Menace II Society soundtrack. If I still had it, that’d been my choice for todays MP3 Saturday. UGK’s “Pocket Full of Stones” and MC Eiht’s “Streiht Up Menace” got endless amount of playtime back in the day. “Got a pocket full of stoooones.” Rest in Peace Chad ‘Pimp C’ Butler

Anyway, since I don’t have the above mentioned song, I give you…

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

Continuing with my affinity to black consciousness in my Hip-Hop, this week is Public Enemy off their newest album “How You Sell Soul To a Soulless People Who Sold Their Soul”. There’s a number of outstanding tracks as well as a few throwaways. My favorite being “Long and Whining Road”. “See Something, Say Something” being a very close second. Next week, is something completely different…and white. Everlast of House of Pain fame.

Without further ado, here’s…

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

This week is a group I discovered thanks to the greatness that is Dave Chappelle’s Block Party DVD. It in itself is a great movie/concert but this group stuck out the most to me. 1, cuz I had never heard of them. 2, I love their flow. 3, I’ve had a recent affinity to militant, black consciousness in my Hip-Hop. Enough talk. This song isn’t great message wise, but I LOVE the flow in it. The song is Hell Yeah(Bonus Track 2) by Dead Prez off their CD Revolutionary But Gangsta.

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

I missed Saturday so today is “when I feel like it”. I couldn’t find the cord for my media player so I had no access to music and my good laptop is still MIA, thus no MP3 Saturday. Found the cord today, so since I’m a lazy fuck and did nothing today I will post an mp3. Today’s song is from one of the many Marley offspring. I have always been a fan of Bob, Ziggy, and Damian Marley, but until recently had never heard of Ky-Mani Marley. I must say, he’s up there with the others, maybe even better. Ziggy’s always been my fav but he’s never had a cd where I’ve liked every song. Ky-Mani’s latest is just that. I’ve listened to it more than any other CD this year, except for maybe Kanye’s latest but it’s gaining. So without further ado I give you off his latest CD “Radio”…

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

Back in my youth, I was heavily into the R&B of the time. Silk, Shai, Boyz II Men, Jodeci, Keith Sweat, Babyface, even Color Me Badd. My favorite out of all those being Shai. I’ve listened to them probably more than any other group. Not sure what i liked about them. Nothing particularly great, but just something about them has always stuck with me. Nowadays they mean a little more. Anytime I hear them, they take me back to a better time. A fun time with no worries. Ah, the innocence of youth. My favorite is probably “Comforter”. I like “Baby I’m Your’s” and If I Ever Fall In Love Again” quite a bit too. So with all that said I give you “Comforter” by Shai.

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

My favorite not so well known rapper is a somewhat local guy. He’s from Kansas City and has questionable ties to the crapfest known as ICP. But PLEASE don’t hold that against him. This is my favorite song on his newest CD, Everready. I give you…

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

I was in Germany when this song came out so I didn’t hear all the talk about how LL had gone soft and the mini backlash of this song. I for one loved it. It’s definitely in my top 3 as far as LL goes. My favorite is “I Can’t Live Without My Radio”.

Credited as the first ever rap love song, I give you, “I Need Love”.
