It’s a media bonanza!

It’s been awhile eh? Well you can thank J.K. Rowling and my Kindle. I am now on the 5th Harry Potter book. Yeah, I know. It’s pretty fuckin’ glorious. My favorite thus far is probably The Prisoner of Azkaban with Goblet of Fire running a very close second. That one almost brought a tear to my eye. Then I manned the fuck up and imagined how great it would be to punch a unicorn in the face. I’m a man! That’s all I’ve really done at this point…not punch a unicorn, like midgets, they’re not real. But reading is all I’ve done. I watch the occasional movie when I have company. Ditto that on the gaming. But when I’m alone, I do my damndest to get lost in a book. After I finish the Harry Potter series I’m gonna read The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. Then it’s a toss up. I’ll probably just pick some book at random. I love my Kindle!

Movie wise, I’ve watched Hancock, Infernal Affairs, Van Wilder and Murder in the First. Quick reviews…

Hancock – A tale of two movies. They tried to cram two movies into one and it didn’t work out too well. First half, pretty damn good. Second half was a mess. Super cheesy ending. I would’ve left the whole super-powered (ex)wife for the sequel. Could’ve better, could have been worse. Rental at best. I give it a C.

Infernal Affairs – One of my favorite movies. Departed with Leonardo Dicaprio is based on this movie. Not much needs be said. One of my favorite movies so it must be good. Doesn’t hurt that it stars my two favorite Asian actors in Andy Lau and Tony Leung. Watch it bitches. Unless of course you’re one of those douschebags that don’t be likin’ them there foreign movies with their ching chang chong shit. To that I say fuck you.

Van Wilder – Has hands down the most revolting scene in cinematic history and it is glorious. Good, mindless, “teen” comedy. In the same vein of movies such as American Pie.

Murder in the First – Haven’t actually finished it. But who knows when I’ll blog again. What I’ve seen is pretty good. I really like Kevin Bacon and Gary Oldman. Couple of fine actors. Loosely based on a true story…very loosely according to wiki. Worth a viewing, not so much a purchase.

Gaming wise, I’m mostly playing Halo 3 and Rock Band 2. I did just get NCAA Football and it’s pretty glorious. Lot of little glitches in the gameplay. Seems kinda rushed, but I’m still enjoying it a lot.

TV Wise I’ve been slacking. Watching True Blood. Not great, but just bad enough and funny to keep watching and still better than that Twilight shit. Also watching Weeds. Better than last season but that’s not saying much.

That’s it for me. Next time I’ll have pictures and whatnot.

That is all.

AAAARRRGGGH!

My fricken external hard drive got knocked off the table and started making grinding noises. Then quit like 2 minutes later as I was trying to access it. About 80 gigs of comics gone. Including the entire run of Question and Batman. Question took a little over a month to download and Batman took 2.

I did have some backed up. Luckily I had just burned off Miracleman for a friend which took even longer to download than Batman. I’m so pissed that I didn’t have the drive in a more secure spot. I’m not even sure what all was on it comic wise. So frustrating. Enough ranting, depression is setting in now.

Live Wire by Jay MacLarty

I’ve had this book for ages but for whatever reason, never got around to reading it, despite loving the first 2 books in the Leonidovich series. Reading is almost a chore for me with my hands being all retarded thanks to a nasty case of broken neck.

Anyway, I recently bought the Amazon Kindle and the first book I bought was Live Wire despite already owning the hard copy. Needless to say, I finished it in two sittings. For one, the book was really good, and two the Kindle fuckin’ rocks.

The return of Retnuh was a nice surprise if not a bit disappointing compared to his appearance in Bagman, which was great. My only complaint was like the last 4 to 6 pages. Just seemed implausible. Wrapped up too nicely. I’m still curious why Hollywood hasn’t picked up on this series. If done right, it could be phenomenal, as all the characters are very well-rounded and I wanna see Retnuh on the big screen dammit! Can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series…on Kindle. I’ll probably pick up the hard copy as well, just because I own the first 3.

Also a quick thanks to Amazon for helping me rediscover my love for reading. The Kindle is amazing.

Now I need to finish up Civil War before Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 comes out.

Alienware is ass part trois

Current Mood:Angry emoticon Angry & Frustrated emoticon Frustrated

Well it’s only been a few months and my laptop is again a $3500 brick. Exact same problem as last time. I’m dreading the call to customer support. One of the most inept groups of people ever. Last time I had to send it in twice due to their complete incompetence. So again, I may be in and out on here. My backup laptop…also an alienware is a complete pile. I’m lucky to get it started. It likes to randomly restart, flash an endless white screen, and overheats. Can’t wait to get a new one…likely a Dell…fuck Alienware!

HD-DVD

Current Mood:Indifferent emoticon Indifferent

Qucikly for someone…I ain’t mad at cha.  Now onto the topic at hand.

Wow! I am utterly shocked at how good HD-DVD looks compared to DVD. My TV only does 720P and it is gorgeous. I may actually have to get a PS3 now so I can have a blu-ray player…fuck the games! I only own one movie thus far and that’s King Kong(which I hate by the way). And I only have it because it came with the player. DVD looks like VHS compared to HD-DVD. Can’t wait until all my movies get here.

That is all.

Red Light of Death!

Well, my 360 has died on me again. In the middle of Mass Effect there were suddenly black lines all over the screen. I turn it off, back on and get one red light with a system error message on screen. Do the trouble shooting I found from searching online, nada. It’s a goner. Time to send in my 3rd 360 and get another refurb that’ll die on me within’ a year.

If the PS3’s lineup wasn’t such crap I’d just say fuck the 360, but it’s just so much fun. Maybe it’s time to go for the newer 360’s with the cooler “falcon” chip.

To top all that off, my Lacie external hard drive will not power on. 90+ gigs of comics…gone. Gonna be impossible to find all those again especially with demonoid.com out of commission.

All this after my Alienware laptop saga. Chronicled Here, and Here

And here is the error screen…

Alienware is ass part deux!

Current Mood:Angry emoticon Angry

Well, as you may or may not know, I sent my computer in to be fixed. I also had a cracked case. The right hinge had snapped off shortly before it went kaput. Anyway, so I sent it in. They got it, but because the cracked case was due to my “negligence” they needed to contact me on whether I would pay for the repair of it. They called one time and we missed the call apparently. I finally called them to see what was up as it had been awhile. They apparently sat on my laptop for 4 days not doing anything. Not even looking at what might be wrong with it cuz they needed confirmation on if we were covering the costs for the damn casing. So we gave the go ahead and all was well…

…wrong! I got the laptop back about 4 days later. Casing fixed. Look at the invoice. No mention of any problem with the laptop other than the damn casing. I turn it on after we put the hard drives back in(they told us not to send them in) with trepidation. As suspected, they did nothing. I’m pretty sure they didn’t even look at it.

So we call them back. They want us to do the exact same troubleshooting we did on our initial call to them. We refused, we were upset…no pissed. We ask for someone in charge. Longer story, short. They want us to send it back in again, this time with the hard drives. I’m likely gonna lose everything on my hard drive. Luckily I backed it up quite often so won’t lose too much. It went back yesterday. Worse customer service EVAR!11!1!!!

Alienware is ass

Current Mood:Angry emoticon Angry & Frustrated emoticon Frustrated

Well, my computer died on me last night. Locked up, then when I turn it on it freezes at the windows loading screen. Won’t boot in safe mode or from the disc either. So, it’s going in to be fixed tomorrow. Now I’m stuck on his ancient laptop that overheats. I get in about 10 minutes before it locks up. So I may not make a post everyday…I know, sad. My life is just so damn exciting, what will you do without me!? Alienware’s customer service is inept at it’s best. They had no clue what they were doing. Thank the deity of your choosing that I got a 3 year warranty. I think I’m going with Dell next time. Their support couldn’t be any worse.

That is all.

Archos 605 WiFi 160 GB

Current Mood:Happy emoticon Happy

Got some time on my Archos player and it is glorious. Beautiful screen. Plays just about everything after you buy the two “optional” plugins. Was a few vids it couldn’t play. Not sure why. 1st season of “Extras” wouldn’t play at all. And any vids with a screen resolution 720 or higher won’t play due to it being “too big”. Only had one of those. Plays files with all these extensions – jpg, mp3, mpg, mp4, avi, divx, and wmv. Those are all the one’s I tried. Again, can’t do anything with the WiFi as there’s no hotspot anywhere near me. Should get to try it out when I go to the dentist in October. Needless to say I’m loving it.

Another cool thing is if you have a picture of the album in the same folder as the mp3’s it’ll show the picture of the album when it plays a song from it.

For example, I have my full cd’s in separate folders. In each folder(most of ‘em) I have a photo of the album cover. Now if a song plays from a certain folder it’ll also display the cover art. Nothing ground-breaking, but pretty cool none the less. Money well wasted.

Archos 604 Wi-Fi 30 gig media player

Current Mood:Tired emoticon Tired

Drew(cousin) got his Archos player today. Been charging it since 5PM today and it just finished at about 10:30PM. I put all my music on it as well as the “Trapped in the Closet” episode from South Park. For the most part, I avoid South Park like the plague. But anytime you make fun of Tom Cruise and Scientology, I’m so there. R. Kelly clownin’ is an added bonus. Also put Bob Saget’s HBO special on there.

The touch screen is very nice. Very responsive. Menu’s are all easily navigated. Maybe a few too many “touches” needed in the music area. For example, if you search by artist, there’s minimum 5 touches to get to one specific song.

Can’t say anything about the wifi as I’m nowhere near a hotspot. Downfall of living in the country.

Again, very easy to add files. Just plug in via the supplied usb cord and then drag and drop. The 2 video files I added didn’t need converted at all, they played with no problems. I think they’re both encoded with xvid. I know wmv files work as well.

With all that said, I want my Archos player :(
