The Whole Ten Yards(2004)

10yards.jpgLet me start by saying I really, really liked “The Whole Nine Yards”. I thought it was a smart, comical, joyride. After I saw the initial previews for the sequel, it immediately turned me off. Looked like it(the series) went from comedy to slapstick farce. After watching it, I can safely say my fears were correct. It wasn’t ‘bad’ per se, but it wasn’t good. The only bright spot being Amanda Peet. She kept it somewhat interesting, with her seeming neurotic behavior throughout. Matthew Perry just annoyed me. Bruce Willis seemed bored and when he wasn’t he was engaging in some extreme over-acting. Was pretty ridiculous. Henstridge was a mere afterthought as was the lame addition of Frankie Figs sister. I did smile a little when his new dental assistant, the aforementioned sister, pulled a gun on him.

Final thoughts. Skip this one. Not even worth a rental. Nothing really redeeming in it other than Amanda Peet.

Mass Effect

mass-effect-643.jpg

Well, I finished Mass Effect and it was one of the most satisfying gaming experiences I’ve ever had. It had a great ending while still setting up the inevitable sequel. I can’t wait for it. I’m gonna start another play through tomorrow, this time with a female. I used a pistol the entire first play through and went almost totally Paragon. Think I’ll go with assault rifle/sniper and Renegade this time. Love, love, love this game….

…I still want another Knights of the Old Republic.

Braves front office

Andruw Jones replacement?

Today in the infinite wisdom of Frank Wren(new general manager). The Braves traded away a potential top closer/set-up man in RP Joey Devine for a guy who’s coming off the worst season of his incredibly average career in CF Mark Kotsay. I knew they were desperate for a CF but Kotsay? Bad, bad move. I hope he fails his physical, thus killing the trade dead.

Athletic endeavors

Quick note on my last post. After reading my own post. I’ve come to the conclusion, that I much prefer Nas to Jay-Z. Now back to your regularly scheduled post.

Playoffs have begun and Patriots just keep trucking along. Tom fuckin’ Brady was 26 for 28 passing and one of those incompletion’s was a drop by Wes Welker. God that fucker sucks. Slot machine is right. Put all your money into him and get shit back in return. I kid, I kid. I picked the San Diego upset. I’d be up by one game on the Digital Gathering “Pick the Pro’s” if I hadn’t forgot about the Green Bay game. I almost picked the Giants as well, but thought two big upsets was too much to ask. So now, it’s Pats/Chargers and Pack/Giants. Who would’ve thunk it. I bet Tiki’s kickin’ himself right now. I think they got a good chance to beat the Pack. Not so sure about the Chargers.

The Jayhawks opened up conference play yesterday with a blowout of Nebraska. Brandon Rush decided to make an appearance, and led the team with 19pts as he was raining 3′s. They’re still undefeated as they head to Oklahoma tomorrow. A Memphis/KU match up would be a fun ass game to watch no matter the outcome. Side note: Brandon Rush will be a bust in the NBA and Kareem Rush is the more talented brother.

I wish there was some hard evidence on Clemens and Bonds. I also wish I could watch Baseball without talk of roids every 5 minutes. Move the fuck on. Make the penalties more strict and kick the users the fuck out. The penalties right now are lame as fuck.

Hockey is not a sport. I’d rather watch paint dry.

Tony Kornheiser is an idiot. He said a few days back that the Celtics were the 4th best team in the East. Behind the Pistons, Magic, and the fuckin Bulls. The Bulls for gods sake! Side note: Dwight Howard is a beast. If he could shoot free throws, he’d be a consistent 30point scorer. Even still, he’s the most dominant big man in the game.

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

I’m not gonna lie and claim Nas as the second coming. I’m not gonna say he’s the greatest rapper alive. Hell, if I had a choice between Jay-Z and Nas, I would pick Jay-Z. No qualms about it. I will say Nas is great. He is one of the greatest lyricists alive. It’s funny, I like Jay-Z’s flow better, and it’s pretty much confirmed Jay-Z “borrowed” Nas flow. Jay-Z used to have a fast, rapid delivery flow but like Jay-Z said.

Yeah I sampled your voice, you was using it wrong
You made it a hot line, I made it a hot song

With that said, I can listen to Nas’s older shit anytime. I eventually get tired of Jay-Z’s albums. I LOVE ‘em when they first come out. Then after a month or so I grow tired of ‘em. I never grow tired of Nas. So without further ado…Nas “One Mic”. It’s the beat that I love so much. The lyrics and flow is nothing to look past either. Love everything about it. I just feel like a new man after hearing it. Very calming…and yet so angry.

My new crack

There’s always at least one game a year that has me totally awestruck, and googly eyed. Last year it was Oblivion. I’d play it for hours at a time, never doing a thing, never realizing how long I’ve played it. Hell, most of the time was spent looting caves and hunting vampires. I closed MAYBE 3 Oblivion gates. Important thing was, I had fun…tons.

The year before that was Knights of the Old Republic II. Flawed? Yes. Fun? Fuck yeah! I’ve played through it atleast 5X. Twice on the light side, thrice, on the dark. So much more fun being evil. By the way. The first time I played the original KotOR, I played the light side. The next play through, I went dark side…and felt soooo bad and guilty about it. I actually had moral issues over it lol. I got over it though as I embraced the dark side like a long lost lover. Fun times, fun times indeed. Lucas Arts/Obsidian/BioWare need to get off their asses and give me another sequel. The good news is BioWare has been busy as they are behind “My new crack”…Mass Effect.

I’m 99% sure that Mass Effect is my new crack. Got it today, and played it 5 hours straight before I realized it. Very similar in the layout to KotOR. Main difference being, Mass Effect is a free roaming action RPG, where as KotOR was a free roaming traditional RPG. The graphics are bee-yoo-tee-ful, and the voice acting is top-notch. As with most games of this type, I’ve yet to really touch the main mission/story thus far. Doing the side quests and whatnot. Anyway, I’m out. Pick up Mass Effect if you even remotely liked the KotOR games. You will not be disappointed.

Trigun…

vash-is-wanted.jpg

My nephew is awesome. He loves him some Vash the Stampede. Tonight we watched the 2nd and part of the 3rd disc, and he loved every bit of it. He was giggling his ass off at Vash’s antics, while I enjoyed the awesome story. We started on the second disc, cuz I had tried to introduce him to Trigun about 6 months ago, with moderate success. Of course he thinks I’m awesome as well cuz he has an Uncle with cool shit. lol

Now I gotta try to get him into Full Metal Alchemist(FMA). Gonna be a hard sale as he’s not much into cutesy shit. FMA is all kinds of serious, and deep, and all that too, but it’s way too cute. I smile during that damn series way more than a 30 year old man should.

American Gladiators is back!

Did you know?…Better yet, do you care? Yeah, me neither…yet I’m watching it. Tre seems to like it. Chose it over his normal nightly watching which consists of Batman, The Batman, and Justice League of America.

I fucked up with netflix. Accidentally got the Escaflowne movie before I’m even close to finishing the series, so sending it right back. Why’s that a fuck up worth mentioning? Cuz I got only got one disc of the series instead of two and it left me hanging. Serious f’n cliffhanger. I’m jonesin’ man, I’m jonesin’.

MP3 Saturday…or when I feel like it

I found this next artist thanks to gamefly…yes gamefly, let me explain. I went to gamefly to see what game I had coming next, and I noticed they had free mp3 downloads. I was bored, so checked it out. Saw a group by the name of “Little Brother”. Looked like Hip-Hop, so downloaded it…not bad. It also had a link to their myspace, so checked it out as well. Again, not bad. Checked out their friends and noticed another artist.

This one going by the name of Donnie. He looked like he did R&B, so again, I checked it out…and was very pleasantly surprised. He’s got a very unique sound in this day and age, and just a consciousness about him. He’s not crying or bitching about his ex-lady friend, he’s not trying to be hard. He’s just singing about life, the things that affects him, and the world.

I’m not gonna lie. I immediately went to my favorite download spots to see what I can find…nothing. So like any good citizen I broke down and bought both of his CD’s. They were worth the money. Especially his debut CD “The Colored Section”. I don’t really have a favorite song yet, so I’m just gonna post the first one that “spoke” to me. That song. Beautiful Me off his debut CD, The Colored Section.

Lyrics to Beautiful Me

Head shoulders knees and toes
Lips, my eyes, my mouth, my nose
They all go against what society calls beautiful
I’m left handed in my right mind
I’m pleasantly plump a phat dime
Black as night and a bright night
As you can see I am beautiful me

I was born by the river the day after the tenth
And its hard to deliver, Scorpio energy’s so intense
Makes me wanna holler, now I know what Marvin meant
The industry’s so cold, give me the things to my ancestors you owe, so

Head shoulders knees and toes
Lips, my eyes, my mouth, my nose
They all go against what society calls beautiful
I’m left handed in my right mind
I’m pleasantly plump a phat dime
Black as night and a bright night
As you can see I am beautiful me

Said American music was built upon my back
R&B, soul, your rock and roll, your blues, your ragtime and your jazz
Yes I herald the gospel, funk, hip-hop techno
And I’ll sing forever in the name of the American Negro

I’m not a nigger I’m a negro,
when I become a nigger I’ll let you know

Head shoulders knees and toes
Lips, my eyes, my mouth, my nose
They all go against what society calls beautiful

Repeat 2x

I’m left handed in my right mind
I’m pleasantly plump a phat dime
Black as night and a bright night
As you can see I am beautiful me

I’m not a nigger I’m a negro,
when I become a nigger I’ll let you know

Repeat

The hell is a hokie any damn way!?

hokies.jpg

My guess is a looooooser. Ooooh burn. Kansas shut up it’s critics yesterday with a dominant 24-21 win over Virginia Tech. Oh yes I said dominant. Kansas beat Virginia Tech at their own game. Special Teams and Defense. A blocked FG being the key play of the game and the difference in the final score. Aqib Talib started things off right with an INT for a TD. Now if only Kansas basketball can keep it up I might be able to forget about the abysmal season for the Chiefs…but I doubt it.

I am a bit perplexed as to why they roll Reesing out to his left so much, forcing him to throw across his body. He looks good when rolling out to his right. Anyway…WOOHOO! ORANGE BOWL CHAMPIONS!
