Based on a true story…or so I’ve heard. It’s basically Dangerous Minds on a low budget. My main complaint is the story seemed very rushed. One minute the students are defiant, the very next they’re all agreeing to come in early, leave late, and work Saturdays. My second complaint is minor, but Edward James Olmos’ comb over was very distracting early on…very. I got over it and in the end enjoyed the experience. It’s amazing how many of them passed the Advanced Placement Calculus Exam. Great story of overcoming a system that’s against you.

I looked up the teacher(Jaime Escalante) the story is based upon on wiki and it had a great quote. “Determination + Discipline + Hard Work = Way to Success”. Simple but true.
