“War is hell, but peace is fucking boring.” That should have been the tagline of the movie. A look at a few morally questionable soldiers during the time shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Joaquin Phoenix is good as usual playing the drug dealing, thieving, lying soldier who’s out to make a buck anyway he can…even black market mop&glo. He gets in over his head when he steals two trucks full of weapons and plans to sell them. All the while a new “Top”, Sergeant Lee, a very convincing Scott Glenn, is trying to ruin all of Joaquin’s fun, including diddling the Sergeant’s daughter. A very good movie, much better than anticipated. Definitely worth a rental, not sure about a buy. Also, Anna Paquin wasn’t completely offensive in her role which is saying alot…she sucks.
