The Braves today traded away Edgar Renteria to the Tigers for 2 highly-touted prospects. I hope Yunel Escobar is as good as he appeared last year.
Official release…
The Braves picked up one of the top outfield prospects in baseball and a talented young starter Monday, acquiring outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and right-handed pitcher Jair Jurrjens from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for shortstop Edgar Renteria and cash considerations.
Hernandez, a 20-year-old center fielder with speed, was the Class A Midwest League Most Valuable Player in 2007, his first full professional season, batting .293 with 84 runs, 25 doubles, four home runs and 50 RBI in 124 games.
Jurrjens, 21, went 7-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 19 starts at Double-A Erie in 2007 before making his Major League debut with Detroit in August. He went 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA in seven starts for the Tigers, including 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA and 24 strikeouts and just one walk in his last three outings.
Hernandez is considered one of the top outfield prospects in all of baseball, Jurrjens, 21, was rated by Baseball America to be the Eastern League’s sixth-best Major League prospect this past season.

I’m not sure what I thought of this movie. I got it on a recommendation but don’t recall from who…or is it whom? While I enjoyed it, I can’t recall why. I mean other than my crush on Thora Birch. Why do I find her so appealing? Anyway, I completely identified with her character. How she knows everything she hates, dislikes, feels, but doesn’t know anything about herself, or what she wants out of life. Just coasting along, hating and ridiculing everything. Of course, I also identified with the wheelchair chick in the beginning. One minute, you’re a plague on society, the next an angel. All because of one little accident. If people only really knew :lol
Anyway, it gets a moderate recommendation. Clearly not for everybody, but an enjoyable movie…for some reason.
My favorite not so well known rapper is a somewhat local guy. He’s from Kansas City and has questionable ties to the crapfest known as ICP. But PLEASE don’t hold that against him. This is my favorite song on his newest CD, Everready. I give you…

Finally got around to watching this masterpiece of a movie. Most often described as a “fairy tale for adults.” And that description is apt. Besides the visuals being stunning, I loved that the most evil “thing” in the movie was man himself. Not Pan, who I was sure was evil. Or even the pale “man”. (which by the way was pretty f’n cool looking). But the most evil thing being her stepfather. I got a very Hitler-esque vibe from him and his soldiers. Obey orders, no questions asked. A highly recommended movie if you can live with subtitles as the movie is only in spanish.
Now I need to track down some of Guillermo Del Toro’s other work. Heard great things. Only other one I’ve seen is Hellboy, and while I enjoyed it, it left alot to be desired.
Well, my computer died on me last night. Locked up, then when I turn it on it freezes at the windows loading screen. Won’t boot in safe mode or from the disc either. So, it’s going in to be fixed tomorrow. Now I’m stuck on his ancient laptop that overheats. I get in about 10 minutes before it locks up. So I may not make a post everyday…I know, sad. My life is just so damn exciting, what will you do without me!? Alienware’s customer service is inept at it’s best. They had no clue what they were doing. Thank the deity of your choosing that I got a 3 year warranty. I think I’m going with Dell next time. Their support couldn’t be any worse.
That is all.
Another slow episode after the greatness of the last ep. Only part I really liked…and I really, really liked it. Was Parkman’s confrontation with his dad. I was convinced he wasn’t the “Nightmare Man”. Then BAM! “Fuck you Matt Parkman! Sonny boy! I am the Nightmare Man!” I figure Parkman will be able to use his soon to be gotten, new found power to help Molly. Peter’s story is kinda getting interesting…his “acting” still bothers me. Very Keanu Reeves-esque.
Chuck had it’s slowest, most boring, uneventful, episode yet. Nothing happened…at all.
Random TV side note…
I was watching Justice League with Tre last night, and heard quite possibly one of the funniest, completely unintentional lines ever…
The setup. A General and one of the former head guys at Cadmus(secret organization setup to defend against the perceived threat of the Justice League) was talking to another former member and he says…”Superman walked right into Cadmus and tossed our men like a salad”. At first my mouth was agape. Like, how could he say some shit like that? Then reality set in and knew it was an innocent comment and didn’t really imply any “salad tossing” lol. I got a giggle out of it either way.
Spoiler for Allen…and anybody else that hasn’t seen the Christmas Special

The second part of the Christmas special was some of the best TV I’ve ever seen. I normally hate shows/movies that tie up in a nice pretty little bow in the end. But it was soooo nice to see something good happen for David after all the bad. It was getting very depressing. And of course, Tim & Dawn. When she left the party early with her fiancé, and didn’t even look back. I just knew it was over. Tim missed his opportunity, Dawn was gone forever. He(and she) would forever wonder, “What if?” It almost…almost made me cry when she opened her present. Was still pretty sure it’d end with that. Then she came back, sans loser fiancé. Without a word, kissed Tim in the middle of the party. All was right in the world. It made me happy.
With all the sappy shit outta the way, it was still a very funny episode. Love how David was ALWAYS trying to kiss up to the “office black guy” throughout the whole season. “I did a beautiful version of No Woman, No Cry, by the late great Bob Marley…and, and The Office black guy, he loved it…so…I mean, he would know.”
Anyway, the Uk Office rocks my socks off, and will be buying it on DVD at my next nearest convenience.
Slow episode this week. I like the injection of Rita’s mother. Conflict is always good, especially misguided conflict based on past conflicts. The heat as a character wasn’t handled that well. Best use of that that I’ve seen is in Kurosawa’s Stray Dog. Wonderful use. I’m not sure I like Dexter’s sponsor, her name escapes me. Seems a little convenient that she may be “evil” in some way.
Watched Bionic Woman as well…I think I’m done with that show. The acting, dialogue, and Isiah Washington suck. Nothing going on to keep me interested.
Heroes tonight, woohoo!
Well the continued love by Damon Huard with Kris Wilson continues. And surprise, the offense still blows. Defense was dominant today, and Jared Allen is one of the biggest draft thefts in history. Incredible. Priest Homes made his first appearance in nearly two years…and nobody noticed…or cared.
Made myself a Chiefs desktop wallpaper couple days ago while bored. Here it be…
Earl was the clear winner this week. I mean it had H.R. Pufnstuf, Crabman and his beautiful song “Please Respect the Meat”, a telenovela, and of course…ninjas. My favorite episode of the year.
Office was…odd. Not as funny, but not bad. Had some emotional moments. My favorite being when Jim consoled Dwight over his relationship with Angela.
A lot of great lines as always, and loved the entire who/whom scene, and when Michael says “No one asked you anything ever so whomevers name is Toby, why don’t you take a letter opener and stick it in your skull.” And Kelly saying, “Ryan used ME as an object.” And, Kevin saying “I know, but I’m not telling because nobody showed up last night”. Just a really great scene.
